Tufts 64, Clark 63Worcester, MA — WORCESTER, MA…In non-conference men's basketball action the Tufts University Jumbos tipped-in a shot with six seconds left to defeat Clark University 64-63. The Jumbos build a 13-point lead in the first half but the Cougars chipped away slowly and outscored Tufts 28-16 over the first 13 minutes of the second half and trailed by only one with less than eight minutes to play. Sophomore David Shepherd (Grantham, NH/Proctor) drained a three-pointer for Tufts with 4:19 to play and gave his team a four-point lead. Clark answered with a three-pointer of their own by first-year DJ Brinn (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) to trail by only one, 59-58. Brinn made a jumper with 3:30 to go to give the Cougars their first lead of the game 60-59 and 1-of-2 free throws by graduate student Adam Miller (Shrewsbury, MA/St. John's) pushed Clark's lead to 61-59. Tufts' senior Reggie Stovell (Washington, DC/Hotchkiss) converted on 1-of-2 free throws to cut the lead to one while senior Drew Kaklamanos (Jupiter, FL/Jupiter) nailed a jumper with 59 seconds to go to take a 62-61 lead. After a Jumbos foul, Miller made two free throws for a 63-62 Clark lead. After a two missed free throws by Clark's junior Tim Dutille (Sunapee, NH/Lebanon) with 16 seconds remaining, Stovell tipped in a rebound with six seconds to go for the 64-63 advantage. Tufts held of Clark's last second chance to hold on for the one-point victory. Stovell finished with a team-high 15 points and grabbed six rebounds. He was 7-for-8 from the line. Shepherd chipped in 14 points, 2-of-3 from long range. Dutille ended the game with a game-high 24 points (7-11 FG, 10-13 FT). Brinn was 7-for-11 from the floor and had 15 points. The Cougars, who fell to 1-4, held their opponent under 70 points for the fourth time in five games. The Jumbos improved to 4-3. Clark will travel to Brandeis University for non-conference action on Tuesday, December 7 for an 8:00 pm start.
