On an evening when seemingly nothing was right for the Loggers, O'Donnell stepped up his game to keep Puget Sound in the win, delivering on three of four foul shots with less than 28 second to play.
A Zack McVey lay-up off an O'Donnell feed knotted the game at 84-84 with 58 second on the clock, producing the sixth and final tie of the second half. After Andrew Gard missed a three point attempt at the Eagles end and O'Donnell grabbed the defensive rebound and was immediately fouled by Northwest's Grant Enloe.
O'Donnell, a 70% free throw shooter on the year, calmly knocked down both shots, giving the hosts a 86-84 lead with 26 ticks on the clock.
Gard, unable to find a seem in the Logger's man defense, again missed an off balance three attempt, with O'Donnell going up high to snatch his team high sixth rebound of the night.
Fouled by post Aaron Sawyer with 18 seconds left, O'Donnell completed the scoring, going one of two from the line to give the Loggers their final 87-84 margin of victory.
A desperation three by Gard at the buzzer was no good, securing Puget Sound's 30th win in their last 33 games. O'Donnell ended the night with 17 points to go with his six rebounds and game high six steals.
For the Loggers junior Chase Curtiss came alive, hitting on five of ten three pointers, four in the second half, on his way to a game high 22 points. Two other Loggers joined O'Donnell and Crutiss in double figures. Guard Jeremy Cross had 19, while forward Aubrey Shelton contributed 13 points and four rebounds.
Northwest University also had four players in double figures, led by Enloe's 19 points on 6 of 10 shooting. Gard also ended the night with 19 points, connecting on 5 of 14 attempts from the floor. The Eagles had trouble with the Logger's press all evening, coughing-up 33 turnovers while forcing only 16 of their own.
The Eagles out rebounded the Loggers 46-32 and held Puget Sound to just 38.4% shooting in the game.
Puget Sound now steps away from the court for finals and a holiday break, resuming competition December 29th against Seattle University at the Oak Harbor Freightliners Classic hosted by Seattle Pacific University.
