KENOSHA, Wis. — The Carthage College women’s basketball team (4-1, 0-0 College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin) lost to Hope College (4-1), 47-39, on Friday, December 3 at the inaugural CCIW/MIAA Women’s Basketball Classic at the Carthage Physical Education Center in Kenosha, Wis. Calvin College (3-2) edged Wheaton College (Ill.), 51-48, Friday’s first game. In the Carthage-Hope contest, Hope led by four points at halftime, 20-16. The Flying Dutch opened up a 13-point lead, 31-18, at 17:34, and the Lady Reds got no closer than eight points the rest of the way, that margin coming at the buzzer. Carthage was ice-cold from the floor, shooting just 24 percent for the game (15-62), including four-of-18 from the three-point range. Tiffany McCrackin had 12 points and connected on just five-of-20 field goals, along with a game-high 13 rebounds and four assists. Erika Buchholz also had 12 points, while Linda Ebels topped Hope with 10 points. On Saturday, December 4, Wheaton (Ill.) will face Hope at 1 p.m., with Carthage playing Calvin at 3 p.m.
