Elmhurst (4-0) jumped out to a quick 8-0 lead before Wisconsin Lutheran (1-6) got on the scoreboard. The Warriors responded with an 18-7 run to take a three-point advantage with 7:27 to play in the first half. Elmhurst answered back, retaking the lead before halftime to lead 31-26 at the break.
The two teams traded buckets in the early part of the second half, before the Warriors were able to go an a 6-0 run and take a 49-48 lead on a pair of B.J. Miller free throws with 7:50 to play. Elmhurst responded with a 19-5 run to take a 13-point lead 67-54 with 2:30 to play. The Bluejays were able to hold off the Warriors to get the 75-66 win.
Elmhurst shot 55.3 percent from the floor (26-of-47) and 46.2 percent from three-point range (6-of-13). Wisconsin Lutheran shot just 38.7 percent (24-of-62) from the field and just 5.3 percent from downtown (1-of-19). The Bluejays also outrebounded the Warriors 38-32.
Chris Martin led the way for Elmhurst with a double-double, finishing with 22 points (8-of-11 from the floor) and 11 rebounds. Nick Michael added 12 points. Craig Schau and Evan Patchett each finished with nine points.
Wisconsin Lutheran was led by Kevin Christiansen’s 32 points on 12-of-27 shooting.
