After the Storm held the Vikings on defense, Soppe again converted a Simpson miss and was fouled by Nate Tigges on the way up. The 6-5 Dyersville native sank the free throw to tie the game. Each team had one more possession but could not score, sending the game into overtime.
The teams exchanged the lead two times in the first portion of the extra frame. Grand View went ahead for good (78-75) with 3:07 to go when Travis Larson sank his second three-pointer of the game. The Vikings scored their final four points of the game from the free throw line when Simpson was forced to foul.
The Vikings went on a 15-2 run late in the first half to take a 13-point lead, but the Storm rallied to score the final eight points of the opening stanza. Simpson would end up on a 26-8 run to take a 55-50 with 13 minutes remaining in the second half.
Tigges led Grand View with 20 points. Marcus Thie scored 19 while Shaun Storey had 13. Simpson's Ryan Hittenmiller posted a game high 21 points (8-12 shooting). Soppe recorded his second consecutive double-double as he charted 15 points and 15 rebounds, tying his career high for points and breaking his career high for rebounds (old was 12). Scott Ellens scored 12 points and had a team high four assists before fouling out.
The loss marked the third time in five games this season that Simpson has gone into overtime, unfortunately for the Storm, Simpson has lost all three times.
