Rhode Island College 84, Roger Williams 80

PROVIDENCE, RI. — Rhode Island College won a double-overtime thriller, 84-80, over Roger Williams in collegiate men’s basketball action Thursday evening. RIC, which opened the game with an 11-0 run, saw RWU claw its way back and cut the Anchormen’s lead to 33-30 at the half.

The Hawks kept up the pressure in the second half, outscoring RIC 38-35 and the two clubs finished regulation deadlocked at 68-68. The teams traded baskets in the first overtime frame and when time expired the score was once again knotted at 74-74. RIC junior Jared Starnino (Providence, RI) had a big put-back basket and sophomore Kamari Williams (Springfield, MA) hit three free throws with time running down to help RIC secure victory in the second extra session.

Williams had 19 points, five rebounds, eight assists and five steals to lead RIC. Senior Andre Daley (Boston, MA) had 16 points, three boards, two assists and a steal, while senior Jason Harris (Bedford, MA) posted a double-double with 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.

RWU, which remains winless at 0-4, got a big performance from junior Ryan Keaton (Smithtown, NY) who scored a game-high 26 points. Freshman Geoff Baranger (Fairfield, CT) posted a double-double with 16 points and 11 rebounds. RWU was a perfect 20-20 from the free throw line in the loss.

RIC improves to 3-2 and has won its last three games since beginning the season 0-2. The Anchormen have now won nine straight home games and 11 of its last 12 contests in The Murray Center.

In upcoming action, RIC will open its Little East Conference schedule at Plymouth State on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 3 p.m.
