Michael Patterson scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down a game-high nine rebounds to lead the Panthers (3-2). Patterson put LaGrange ahead to stay with a shot underneath the basket with 19 seconds left.
Oakwood (3-9) had one last chance to send the game into overtime. Joey Jenkins' three-point attempt at the buzzer fell short, s ecuring the Panthers' win.
The Ambassadors jumped out to a quick 13-4 lead less than four minutes into the game. They took their biggest lead, 28-18, on three-pointer by Terrell Black.
The Panthers fought their way back. They tied the game at 30 on a basket by Patterson and took the lead for the first time on a three-pointer by Robby Lawrence.
Trailing 37-33, the Panthers got within one at halftime. Lawrence hit a long three-pointer at the buzzer to make it 37-36.
Jamaal Gibbons led Oakwood with 17 points. Lawrence finished with 15 for the Panthers, while Evert Herriott added 10.
