The Engineers used an 11-0 run just after the midway point of the first half to turn a 22-20 lead into a 33-20 advantage. Cain keyed the rally by canning a pair of free-throws and nailing a three-pointer. Free throws were key for WPI (5-0) as they converted on 15 of 18 first half attempts.
Fitchburg State (0-5) received a strong effort from graduate student Rashad Cope (Roxbury/Snowden) who registered 13 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard James Prignano (West Hartford, CT/Northwest Catholic) had a team-best 15 points for the Falcons who will next be in action on Tuesday evening when they travel to Dudley, MA to face the Bison of Nichols College. WPI will host Connecticut College on Saturday afternoon.
