Worcester State 48, Clark 44Worcester, MA — WORCESTER, MA…In a non-conference men's basketball game between cross-town rival Worcester State, Clark University fell 48-44 in a defensive minded contest. Trailing by as many as 14-points in the second half and by 10 with less than 11 minutes to play, the Cougars went on a 10-0 run over a six minute span to tie the game at 41 a piece. Sophomore Asher Cowan (Petersborough, NH/Cushing Academy) drained two three-pointers to spark the run for the Cougars. The Lancers' junior Brandon Brooks (Schenectady, NY) made 1-of-2 free throws at the 4:31 mark of the second half to give Worcester State a 42-41 advantage. The Cougars and Lancers held each other scoreless over the next three minutes before junior Tyson Drayton (Roxbury, MA) gave the Lancers a four-point lead with 1:13 to play on a basket and a free throw. Clark's sophomore Gunnar Hagstrom (Yarmouth, ME/Yarmouth) answered with a jumper to cut the lead to two points with a minute to play. Senior Ryan Connor (Worcester, MA) sealed the win for the Lancers with a free throw with 11 seconds remaining and a 4-point advantage. Graduate student Adam Miller (Shrewsbury, MA/Worcester Academy) grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds for the Cougars and added six points and three blocks. Seniors Tom Sullivan (Auburn, MA) and Jermaine Cannon (Dorchester, MA) led the Lancers with 11 points each. Sullivan grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Dryaton ended the game with nine points and four assists for the Lancers, who improved to 2-2. Clark's first-year DJ Brinn (Madison, CT/Daniel Hand) had 11 points, six rebounds, three assists while junior Tim Dutille (Sunapee, NH/Lebanon) chipped in eight points and nine rebounds. The Cougars, who fell to 1-3, host Tufts University on Saturday, December 4th at the Kneller Athletic Center. Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
