Thomas More 67, Wilmington 65

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky — The Wilmington College Quakers dropped their third straight game, this one to Thomas More College by a 67-65. Deon Short and Eric Stirling each had double-doubles in the loss.

The Saints scored the first four points of the game, and led for the first five and a half minutes before Short connected on his ninth consecutive point, a three-point basket, giving the visiting Green and White a three-point lead. The two teams battled back and forth for the remainder of the half as the Saints took a six-point lead into the locker room.

The Thomas More second-half lead grew to as many as 10 with 5:32 to play in the game before the Quakers mounted a comeback, using a 12-2 run over the game’s next four minutes to tie the game at 63 with 1:21 to play in the game. The Saints hit three straight free throws to take a lead that they would not relinquish for the last minute of the game.

Short led the way for the Quakers with a season-high 28 points while Stirling added 17 in the losing effort. Stirling pulled down 13 rebounds to lead he team while Short added 10 for the first two double-doubles of the 2004-05 season. Three Quakers, Stirling, David Guy and Josh Rohrbacher each dished out three assists as Short picked up five steals.

A trio of Saints scored in double figures, led by Chris Hill’s 16 points while R.K. Thurman added 13 points and 13 rebounds.

With the loss, the Quakers fall to 2-3 on the season while Thomas More improves to 2-2.

The next game for the Quakers is on Saturday, December 3 when the team will face off against the Blue Streaks of John Carroll University in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
