Randolph-Macon 74, Lynchburg 63

ASHLAND, Va. — Randolph-Macon College junior forward Justin Wansley scored a game-high 22 points and pulled down a career and game-high 18 rebounds to lead the host Yellow Jackets to a 74-63 win over the Lynchburg College Hornets in Old Dominion Athletic Conference men’s basketball action on Wednesday, December 1. Also for Randolph-Macon, sophomore forward Philip Hawley scored a career-high 16 points on 5-of-6 (83.3%) shooting and grabbed six rebounds. Senior guard Justin Moyer added 10 points and three assists, and tied his career-high with six rebounds. He made all six of his foul shot attempts.

The win improved the Yellow Jackets to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the ODAC. The Hornets dropped to 2-4 on the season and 0-1 in the conference.

After a slow start, Randolph-Macon ended up leading by as many as 21 points in the first half. That proved to be the halftime margin, as the Yellow Jackets took a 42-21 advantage into the locker room.

Things got sloppy in the second half. The biggest lead for Randolph-Macon was 23 points, 53-30 with 12:00 remaining. The Hornets made a comeback attempt, and reduced the deficit to eight points, 67-59, late in the contest. But that was as close as Lynchburg would get.

For Randolph-Macon, following the performances by Wansley, Hawley, and Moyer, sophomore guard Adam Krovic contributed with eight points. Junior guard Patrick Gill had seven points and a game-high six assists.

Lynchburg was led by sophomore guard Pete Manos and junior guard Matt Sweeney, who each scored 13 points. Senior guard Todd Crown added eight points.
