Maryville outscored the Bearcats 44-36 in the second half, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 19 point deficit from the first half as the Saints dropped to 1-5 overall on the season. After shooting just 30.6 percent from the field in the first half, Maryville came out to sink 17-29 (.586) from the field in the final 20 minutes. Turnovers, second-chance points and points off the fast break seemed to hurt the Saints the most, as the Bearcats recorded 23 points, 16 points and 11 points in each category respectively.
Sophomore Jason Rezabek, who returns to the Saints lineup after undergoing off-season knee surgery, led the offensive charge with a team-high 16 points on 7-9 (.778) shooting from the field and 2-2 (1.000) from the charity stripe. Rezabek and freshman Casey Holland each grabbed a team-high five rebounds for the Saints.
Junior Matt Regan added 13 points and four boards. He was also a perfect 5-5 (1.000) from the free throw line. Fellow junior Tim Elwell came off the bench and contributed 12 of Maryville's 33 bench points, while also dishing out two assists and recording three steals and three rebounds.
McKendree had five players score in double figures and was led by Brad Fischer with 20 points. Mike Strobbe tallied 19 points and a game-high 12 rebounds for a double-double, while Chris Shields and Shawn Byrne netted 14 points a piece. Byrne also had a game-high six assists, and Bryant Lyles chipped in with 11 points.
Maryville will return to action this Saturday, December 4, when they travel to Greencastle, IN, for a 7:00 pm matchup with DePauw University.
