Carnegie Mellon 69, Johns Hopkins 62

PITTSBURGH, Pa. — The Carnegie Mellon Tartans handed the Blue Jays of Johns Hopkins a 69-62 defeat Wednesday, December 1. The Tartans move to 3-2 as the Blue Jays drop to 2-2. The victory for the Tartans marks their first win in nine games against Johns Hopkins. The Tartans last defeated the Blue Jays 83-63 at Skibo Gymnasium during the 1995 season.

Johns Hopkins opened to a 21-11 lead before the Tartans closed the half on a 19-8 run to take a one point lead into the half, 30-29. Both teams came out strong in the second half before Blue Jays used an 8-0 run midway through the second half to take a one point lead at 44-43. The Tartans then countered with their own 8-0 run to take a 51-44 lead and stayed on top for good.

Junior Clayton Barlow-Wilcox (Brookline, MA/Brookline), senior Michael Divens (Trafford, PA/Penn Trafford), and junior transfer Nate Maurer (Pittsburgh, PA/Linsley School) each had 17 points for the Tartans. Barlow-Wilcox pulled down 10 rebounds marking his third consecutive double-double.

Senior Eric Toback led the Blue Jays with 16 points and added 8 rebounds. Sophomore Danny Nawrocki chipped in with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Carnegie Mellon was out rebounded 33-24 but had the edge on turnovers committing 12 to Johns Hopkins 23.

The Tartans will open UAA play Saturday, December 4 as they play host to the University of Rochester. Tip is set for 4:00 pm.
