Tufts 83, Amherst 66

HOBOKEN, N.J. — Junior forward Dora Enright (Longmont, Colo.) went 12-for-16 from the floor and finished with a season-high 27 points as the Stevens Institute of Technology women’s basketball team posted a 69-62 victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday afternoon at the Canavan Arena in Hoboken, N.J. Enright, who had 17 first-half points, added six rebounds as the Ducks improved to 15-4 (8-2 Skyline Conference) on the year.

Leading 41-39 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game, Stevens rattled off a 12-2 run over a five-minute stretch to take control. Junior forward/center Rebecca Baldyga (Voorhees, N.J.) got things started with a jumper. Freshman forward Brittany Fuller (East Rockaway, N.Y.) followed with a three-pointer from the top of the arc. After a lay-up by Enright, sophomore guard Dani Dudek (Rockaway, N.J.) knocked down a long-range shot. Enright capped the spurt with a basket inside to put the Ducks on top 53-41 with 5:58 remaining.

Dudek finished with 12 points, eight rebounds, six assists and two steals in the game. Freshman guard/forward Sarah Gehring (Spokane, Wash.) added 10 points, eight rebounds and three steals. Junior guard Jean Matusiak (Queens, N.Y.) chipped in with nine points, seven assists and three rebounds.

Merchant Marine (6-13, 3-7 Skyline) was led by junior forward Morgan Gartner (Houston, Texas), who had 26 points and 12 rebounds. Gartner was 10-for-20 from the floor in the game. Sophomore guard Kristen Hetsko (Killingworth, Conn.) added 16 points and four rebounds. Hetsko knocked down four three-pointers in the contest for the Mariners, who lost for the 12th time in 13 games.

For the game, Stevens shot 41.9 percent (26-for-62) while USMMA made 21 of 52 (40.4 percent) field-goal attempts. The Ducks, who have won six of their last seven games, forced 17 turnovers by the Mariners.

Stevens will be back in action on Tuesday when the Ducks travel to Farmingdale, N.Y. to take on Farmingdale State College at 7 p.m.
