Patchogue, NY – Senior point guard Brian Fenton tied a St. Joseph’s College record by draining eight field goals from three-point range in a 89-72 Skyline Conference victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy (Kings Point) on Saturday night.
Fenton led all scores in the game with 28 points on 9-for-14 shooting and 8-for-10 from behind the three point line. He also tallied seven assists and five rebounds as he played all 40 minutes for the Golden Eagles. Fenton’s eight field three-point goals tied the mark set by Dave Edwards in the 1991-92 season.
Also having a solid all-around game for SJC was senior Jorge Martinez. The guard fell one assist short of recording a triple-double as he scored 10 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and assisted on nine baskets.
Sophomore guard David Acree continued his consistently excellent play by putting up 20 points in the Skyline contest. Chris Niblock, also a sophomore, scored 16 points in addition to his five rebounds.
The win improved the Golden Eagles record to 6-3 overall and 2-0 in the Skyline Conference. They are one of only three teams that are left undefeated in the Skyline and therefore tied for first place.
Up next for Coach Mateyko’s squad this week are two more important Skyline match-ups. They will travel this Wednesday to Stevens Institute before they return to the Danzi Center on Saturday the 13th for a game with Centenary College at 4:30 pm.
