Endicott 82, Wentworth 50

NEWBURGH, N.Y. — Despite struggling in the first half and trailing at halftime, the Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball played a much better second half and defeated the College of New Jersey, 67-57.

The Blue Knights led by as many as ten points in the first half but the Lions were able to tie the game at 30 with under a minute to play. A free throw by Alexandra Gregorek (Mahwah, NJ) with three seconds remaining gave the Lions the lead going into the locker room.

The lead changed hands several times in the early minutes of the second half, but it was MSMC that would eventually seize control of the game. With the game tied at 37, the Mount ripped off a 22-8 run that closed out the Lions. A few late three-pointers by the visitors closed the gap to the final margin of 67-57.

Four players reached double figures for the home team. Juniors Chantel Anthony (Middletown, NY) and Vanessa Lawson (Kingston, NY) each had 12 points, as did senior LaSheena Brown (Malverne, NY). Junior Jackie Markert (Voorheesville) continued to rebound the basketball very well, collecting 10 rebounds to go along with her 10 points.

For the Lions, Sara Best (High Bridge, NJ) led the way with 12 points and 5 rebounds. TCNJ leading scorer Hillary Klimowicz (Scotch Plains, NJ) was saddled with foul trouble for the entire game and finished with only 7 points. Klimowicz played just 13 minutes in the game.

For the Blue Knights, tonight’s win marks their seventh in a row and they now stand at 13-3. The Lions dropped further away from the .500 mark, falling to 8-10 on the season. Next up for the Mount is an important Skyline date with Farmingdale State College. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. in the Kaplan Center.
