NEWBURGH, N.Y. — In a game that was back and forth from the opening tip, Farmingdale came out on top of the Mount Saint Mary College men’s basketball team Thursday night, 75-69.

The Blue Knights trailed for the first 19 minutes in the game before a three-pointer from senior Mike Hoyt (Florida, NY) gave them their first lead. They carried a one point advantage into the intermission.

Mount Saint Mary extended their lead to as many as seven at the sixteen minute mark of the second half, but could not run away from the Rams. Farmingdale chipped away at the lead and eventually took a seven point lead of their own, with six minutes remaining. The Blue Knights clawed back and were able to tie the game at 63 with three minutes to go. Farmingdale then went on a 7-0 in the next 90 seconds that put the game out of reach. MSMC did not take a shot during the minute and a half span.

Senior Mike Hoyt (Florida, NY) led all scorers in the game with 28 points. He just missed eclipsing the 2500 point mark for his career, falling one point short. Hoyt connected on 6 three-pointers and also had 5 assists. Senior Kieran Begley (Chester, NY) reached double figures for the second straight game, finishing with 15 on the night. Sophomore Chris Harrison (Baldwin, NY) had 12 points and 9 rebounds.

The visiting Rams were led by an inspired performance off the bench from Brain Robinson (White Plains, NY). Robinson was the catalyst for Farmingdale’s strong second half performance. He finished with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Sophomore Damien Santana (Brooklyn, NY) led the Rams with 13 points, while junior Tom Canning (Oak Beach, NY) had 11 points and 10 rebounds.

The win was an important one for the Rams, as they maintained their fourth place position in the Skyline Conference. They are still in line to host an opening round game. Farmingdale is 16-8 overall and 10-5 inside the conference. The Blue Knights dropped to 8-16 overall and stand at 5-10 in Skyline play. The final game of the regular season is on Saturday as the Blue Knights host Stevens, their probable opponent in the first round of the Skyline tournament. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
