FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — The Farmingdale State women’s basketball team (17-6, 12-4) defeated Mount Saint Mary College (20-4, 13-2 Skyline) tonight when junior forward Jasmine Sistrunk (Brooklyn, N.Y./South Shore) laid in the winning basket off the inbounds with 0.3 second remaining on the clock for a 67-66 victory in Farmingdale, N.Y. These two teams have had an ongoing rivalry over the past few years, meeting a total of eight times before tonight, with three straight Conference Final encounters, but tonight marks the first-ever win for the Rams.

Farmingdale held a 43-32 lead at halftime before the Blue Knights quickly erased the lead with a 13-5 run in the first four minutes of the second. The Rams held the lead until an Annie Cossolini (Fanwood, N.J./St. Dominic Academy) three-pointer with 6:05 remaining gave Mount Saint Mary the one-point edge. Mercedes Miller (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center) responded with a lay up for Farmingdale State to take back the lead 59-58 and they built the lead back up to four points.

The Blue Knights took the lead again after another Cossolini three brought her team to within one with 55 seconds left. On the next possession Mount Saint Mary’s Chantel Anthony (Middletown, N.Y/Middletown) stole the ball and was fouled, heading to the line for two and making both for a one-point cushion. After two Blue Knight fouls and three timeouts with 3.5 seconds left, Farmingdale’s Kimberly Blakney (Brooklyn, N.Y./Benjamin Banneker) inbounded the ball to Sistrunk for the lay in and the win.

The Rams opponent for next weeks’ Skyline Conference Playoffs will be set on Saturday night. Farmingdale will be the #3 seed and the quarterfinal round is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20th at home.
