It was another record setting night for the Mount Saint Mary College men’s basketball team. Head coach Duane Davis (Staatsburg, NY) earned his 100th regular season Skyline Conference victory. He is believed to be the first coach in Skyline history to reach the milestone. Davis is now 100-55 in the conference and 195-120 overall at Mount Saint Mary.
After reaching the 2000 point milestone on Monday night, senior Mike Hoyt (Florida, NY) put on an encore performance against Mount Saint Vincent. The pre-season All-American scored 43 points against the Dolphins, eclipsing his own single-game scoring record by one point. He shot 13-29 from the field and connected on five three-pointers.
The Blue Knights trailed by as many as seven points in the first half, but answered with a 20-2 run that started at the eleven minute mark. The run turned a one point deficit into a seventeen point lead. The Dolphins would get as close as 5 points in the second half, but the Blue Knights answered with a long 31-10 run that put the game out of reach.
Hoyt led all scorers with 43. Sophomore Chris Harrison (Baldwin, NY) put up a double-double with 10 points and 10 boards. Senior Matt Cutney (Wallkill, NY) also got in on the act, pouring in 11 points.
For the Dolphins, junior Derek Charlton (Yonkers, NY) had a fantastic night, scoring 28 points and collecting 10 rebounds.
With the win, MSMC improves to 4-9 overall. They are 1-3 in Skyline play. Mount Saint Vincent’s struggles continue as they fall to 1-11 overall and 0-4 in Skyline play. The Blue Knights return home for their next game, a match-up with SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday. Game time is 2:00 p.m.
