NEWBURGH, N.Y. — The Mount Saint Mary College women’s basketball team won their second consecutive game on Wednesday night by defeating the College of Mount Saint Vincent, 69-60. The game was closely contested for most of the way as the Dolphins would just not go away.

Despite trailing by as many as twelve points in the first half, the Dolphins cut the gap to three at the break as the Blue Knights carried a 34-31 lead into halftime. Midway through the second half, MSMC used a 7-0 run to finally pull away from the Dolphins. The Blue Knights led 54-42 following the spurt.

Junior Vanessa Lawson (Kingston, NY) led all scorers in the game with 25 points. She also had 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Junior Jackie Markert (Voorheesville, NY) had her best game of the season, pouring in 17 points and pulling down 6 boards.

For the visitors, Junior Kaitlin Burud (Red Hook, NY) finished with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Freshman Lauren Percodani (Staten Island, NY) has 9 points and 6 assists.

The Blue Knights improve to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in Skyline play with the victory. The Dolphins drop to 5-5, 2-3 in the Skyline. Next up for Mount Saint Mary is a visit to SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday. Tip-off is at 2:00 p.m.
