Boone reached the millennium mark on a lay-up with 1:49 remaining in the first half off a feed from junior point guard Charlie Parker (career-high 10 assists) as NYU (7-0) took a 44-30 halftime lead over the Fighting BlueJays (2-6).
The Violets’ all-time leader in blocked shots with 154, Boone now stands in 23rd place all-time on the program’s scoring charts with 1,009 points.
“I didn’t get 1,000 points in high school, I fell a few hundred short,” said Boone, who also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots in the win. “Being a four-year starter, I knew it was attainable. I had a good game tonight. I just felt comfortable.”
“I’m just so proud of Jason, not only for his accomplishments on the court which are certainly great, but to be a part of the 1,000-point club is great. Obviously we have a lot of season ahead of us, so hopefully he can continue to climb the charts,” NYU head coach Joe Nesci said.
NYU owned a 38-8 advantage on points in the paint thanks to the play of Boone and senior forward Daniel Falcon, who recorded his fourth double-double of the season with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Senior swingman Michael DeCorso tallied 11 points and grabbed seven boards for the Violets.
Also for NYU, senior guard Matt Basford scored 12 points by burying four three-pointers.
Tyree Williams (16 points) and Lindon Ivezaj (15 points) led Polytechnic while combining to shoot 9-13 from beyond the three-point arc. Overall, the Fighting BlueJays hit 45.5% (10-22) of their long-range attempts.
The Violets are off for the next 17 days until they host the NYU Christmas Tournament on Friday, December 29. NYU will face SUNY Old Westbury in the first round at 6 pm, while Baruch College and Clark University (MA) will tip off at 8 pm.
