NYU senior forward Daniel Falcon earned Tournament Most Valuable Player honors after recording his second double-double of the tourney with 16 points and 11 rebounds while adding three blocks. Senior center Jason Boone (11 points, 13 rebounds) and forward senior swingman Michael DeCorso (nine points) also represented the Violets (9-0) on the All-Tournament Team.
Mark Alexander led all scorers with 23 points for Clark (5-4).
Ranked #23 in the latest d3hoops.com Top-25 Poll, the Violets (9-0) held the Cougars (5-4) without a point for the first 5:06. NYU seized a 31-8 lead with 6:41 remaining in the opening stanza as Falcon scored all 12 of his first-half points on free throws and a handful of inside buckets. With Falcon and Boone leading the way, the Violets owned a 45-26 rebounding advantage.
Also for the Violets, junior guard Charlie Parker netted a career-high 14 points and dished off six assists.
Pat Landers contributed 10 points for Clark, which shot 34.4% (22-64), including 25.9% from beyond the three-point arc (7-27).
In the third-place game of the NYU Christmas Tournament, SUNY Old Westbury turned back Baruch College 71-60.
NYU returns to action Tuesday, January 2, when it hosts the College of Mount St. Vincent in the second game of a doubleheader with the Violet women’s team. The women’s game tips off at 3 pm, followed by the men’s tilt at 5 pm.
