NEW YORK, NY — Junior Joey Spiegel (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) scored 19 points and senior Luis Martinez (Passaic, N.J./Clifton) added 18 as the No. 11 William Paterson men’s basketball team (9-2) defeated City College of New York (4-6) 63-51 Dec. 23.

The Pioneers jumped out early and never looked back, racing out to a 31-16 halftime lead. William Paterson held CCNY to just six field goals during the first 20 minutes of play while shooting 43.3 (13-30) percent from the floor during the first stanza.

Spiegel added three steals and a pair of assists to his game-high 19 points. Martinez had four steals for the Pioneers.

William Paterson is ranked 10th in this week’s d3hoops.com National Top 25 Poll.

The Pioneers will take an 11-day break from competition for the holidays, returning to action Thursday, Jan. 4, at home against Tufts at 7:00 p.m.
