NEW YORK, NY — Led by the three-point shooting of its starting backcourt of senior Matt Basford and junior Charlie Parker, the New York University men’s basketball team cruised to a 69-52 victory over Case Western Reserve University in University Athletic Association action Sunday at the Jerome S. Coles Sports Center in Manhattan.

Basford and Parker each scored 13 points and knocked down three long-range shots for the Violets (14-2, 3-2 UAA), who have won three straight. Parker, who was inserted into the starting lineup when NYU began its current three-game winning streak on January 15 with a 94-59 triumph over Hunter College, also doled out six assists.

Senior center Jason Boone led the Violets with 16 points. He also grabbed six rebounds and doled out four assists.

NYU took a 37-28 lead into the locker room at halftime as Boone, Parker and senior swingman Michael DeCorso each netted eight first-half points.

The Violets led by as much as 18 in the second half as Basford scored eight of his points after intermission. For the game, NYU shot 56.5% (26-46), its second straight game of shooting better than 56.0%.

Junior forward Mason Conrad tallied a game-high 20 points in 25 minutes for Case Western Reserve (4-12, 0-5 UAA), while junior center Rob Skuski added 12 for the Spartans. Junior guard Brandon Bradford finished with eight points, eight assists and four steals.

Case Western hit 39.6% (19-48) of its shots, including just 1-9 from downtown against the nation’s Division III leader in field-goal percentage defense.

"I thought we had a very strong defensive performance," said NYU head coach. "It allowed us to keep Case Western from getting back into the game."

NYU resumes action Friday, Jan. 26, when it travels to face UAA opponent the University of Chicago. Game time is 8 pm Central Standard Time, 9 pm Eastern Standard Time.
