Down by a 52-45 margin 16:20 left in the game, Emory battled and took a 60-59 lead with 9:06 on the clock when senior Adrian Sosa hit a three-point field goal. After Pinto’s three pointer, the Eagles missed their next four field goal attempts and went scoreless for over four minutes while Rochester went on its decisive run. Chmielowiec totaled six points in the stretch, with his four-point play coming on his second three pointer of the afternoon and a free throw when he was fouled on the shot. That sequence enabled Rochester to claim a 73-63 bulge with 3:46 on the clock. The 6-foot-3 Chmielowiec paced six double-figure scorers for the Yellowjackets with 16 points.
Emory got off to a quick start in the game and held a pair of eight-point leads in the first half, the last coming with 5:20 left in the stanza when junior Spiros Ferderigos converted a pair of free throws. However, the host Yellowjackets sank four three-point field goals over the remainder of the half that helped them take a 44-41 edge at halftime. The long-range shot was well used by both squads during the opening 20 minutes of action with each shooting 50 percent, Emory hitting three-of-six and Rochester seven-of-14.
Ferderigos concluded the game as Emory’s leading scorer with 16 points while registering a team-high six rebounds.
