Five Violets scored in double figures as the squad improved to 13-1.
Trailing 20-19, NYU (#18 ESPN/USA Today/#21 d3hoops.com) took the lead for good on two free throws by sophomore Jessica McEntee with 6:06 left in the first half. Those free throws ignited a 14-3 NYU streak as the Violets went on to a 35-27 lead at the intermission.
Andrea Buckham's jumper to open the second half pulled Hunter (11-4) to within six points.
However, that was as close as the Hawks would get as the Violets' advantage grew to as many as 31 points in the second half.
NYU scored 56 points in the paint, out-shooting Hunter 47% (31-66) to 32.7% (17-52).
"I thought the key to the game was the presence of our inside players," said NYU head coach Janice Quinn. "We were able to consistently get the ball inside to Ryba and 'Bach' and they were able to convert."
McEntee was the game's high scorer with 18 points. She just missed another double-double, finishing with nine rebounds.
Senior center Karen Bachman (16 points, 6-8 FG, 10 rebounds, four steals) and senior forward Stephanie Ryba (12 points) proved difficult to defend down low.
Sophomore guards Sarah McDevitt (11 points, six rebounds) and Gina Brown (10 points) also scored in double figures for NYU.
Senior point guard Adrienne Rochetti added nine points and five steals for the Violets.
Buckham led Hunter with 16 points, while Krystin Suarez (14 points) and Caitlin McDougall (12 points) also scored in double figures for the Hawks.
