AMHERST, Mass. — AMHERST, Mass. - Senior guard Joeanna Silvey (Boston, Mass.) netted 23 points to lead Mount Holyoke (2-1) past Amherst College (1-2), 58-54. Silvey scored her 1,000th career point in the process, sinking two free throws with 9:50 remaining to hit the milestone.

Amherst built a 12-4 run to start the game, but the Lyons rallied back and gained their first lead with 6:24 to go in the half, 18-17. MHC closed out the half with a 10-2 run to lead by six at the break, 25-19.

The Lord Jeffs completed another 12-4 stint to start the second half, surging ahead, 31-29, in the first three minutes. The Lyons regained the momentum and took a 33-31 lead with 10:39 to go, a lead they would never relinquish. At the 9:50 mark, Silvey dropped in two free throws for the career milestone and a four-point MHC lead. Amherst battled hard in the final moments of the game, narrowing its deficit to one point on a Stefanie Reiff (Hinsdale, Ill.) three-pointer, but Mount Holyoke made their free throws down the stretch to ice a 58-54 win.
