DEERFIELD, Ill. — Entering the Trinity International University (Ill.) Tournament, the Northwestern College (Minn.) women’s basketball team was scheduled to play Mount Mercy College (Iowa) in semi-final action. A winter storm quickly changed that. Due to the weather conditions that gripped the Midwest, two of the four teams scheduled to compete in the two-day event were unable to make the trip and so the Northwestern College women’s basketball squad ended up facing host Trinity International University in two straight games this past Friday and Saturday. The Eagles faltered against the Trojans in both affairs, slipping in the Friday afternoon clash on account of a 60-52 final score and again on Saturday in a 54-44 final tally. With the losses, Northwestern stands at 0-6 overall on the year.

The rematch on Saturday featured Northwestern trailing by just 4 points at 30-to-26 at halftime. However, the Eagles were unable to erase their deficit in suffering the non-conference loss. Northwestern made only 16-of-54 (29.6%) field goal attempts, but did own a 34-to-32 advantage on the boards. Eighteen turnovers proved costly for the Eagles down the stretch. Freshman forward Kayla Hendrickson (Willmar, Minn.) was the lone Northwestern player to reach double-figures for points, contributing 10 with 3 rebounds as well. Jen Adamson owned 9 points and 9 rebounds, while Julie Ross boasted 8 points, 7 rebounds, and 2 assists.

Northwestern College will continue their campaign on Tuesday, December 5, traveling to La Crosse, Wisconsin, to face Viterbo University at 6 p.m. The Eagles will get their Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) schedule underway on Saturday, December 9, hosting Crown College (Minn.) at 3 p.m. in the Ericksen Center.
