SCHENECTADY, NY — Senior guard and captain Joe Mackey (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored a season high 22 points and junior center Kyle Grimm (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona Central) had his first double double of the season with 10 rebounds and 10 points as Union defeated Lehman, 76-62 at the Viniar Athletic Center Saturday afternoon. The Dutchmen are now 2-3 on the season while the Lighting now stands 3-4.

Sophomore guard Steve Madej (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) scored a career high 16 points while freshman guard Nick DiMaggio (Croton-on-Hudson, NY/Croton-Harmon) added 10 points for the Dutchmen. Sophomore forward Drew Desmarais (St. James, NY/Smithtown) scored nine points and pulled down eight rebounds for the Dutchmen. Mackey, who has 62 points in his last three games, posted his third straight 20 point game.

Lehman was led by sophomore guard Duane Rhoden (Dewitt/Clinton Bronx, NY), who had a game high 27 points along with nine rebounds. Senior forward Chris Diplan (Long Island City, NY/Long Island City) posted a game high 12 rebounds for Lehman, which outrebounded the Dutchmen, 44-40 and shot 38%.

Union jumped out to an 8-0 lead as well as leads of 20-4 (14:58 left), and a game high of 34-13 with 9:28 remaining in the first half. Union led 43-29 at halftime. The Lightning went on a 10-2 run in the first 2:58 of the second half to pull to within six at 45-39, but could get no closer. Union went on a 10-4 run for a 55-43 lead with 13 minutes left fueled by six points from Mackey.

The Dutchmen shot 50% in the first half and 44% for the day. Lehman had a 24-13 points-off-turnovers advantage. Union plays at Wagner on December 15, while Lehman hosts the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Monday night.
