ASHLAND, VA — ASHLAND, VA -- Corey Dorsey scored 17 points and Dan Capkin and Brian Staeja added 14 each as Gettysburg won 64-49 over Union in the first game of the Hal Nunnally December Classic at Randolph-Macon. Union faces either Methodist or Randolph Macon at 6 p.m. Monday in the consolation game.

Union was led by junior center Kyle Grimm (Vernon-Verona-Sherrill Central), who had a game high nine rebounds. Senior forward and captain Joe Mackey (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) had a team high 14 points, ending a string of four straight games with 20 or more points. Steve Madej (Burnt Hills, NY/Burnt Hills) added 13 points and three assists for Union (2-5).

Gettysburg (2-6) shot 42% for the contest, had had a 39-34 rebounding advantage on the day. The Bullets won despite making just four of 21 three point attempts. Union had an eight point lead at halftime, holding the Bullets to just 24 points after the first 20 minutes. A layup by Grimm with 17:44 remaining in the second half had Union up 35-27. But the Bullets tied it at 43-43 with 8:24 remaining, to cap a 16-8 run in 9:20. A Matt Presby free throw with 8:05 remaining made it 44-43 Bullets, giving them their first lead since 4-3 and the lead for good.

Monday's game will be the last contest of 2006 for the Dutchmen, who will return to action January 5 to host the two-day Sig Makofsky Invitational Tournament.
