Cavanaugh and Wilkinson also pulled down six rebounds apiece for the Red Dragons (5-1). Freshman Jessica Laing (Bloomville/South Kortright) added 11 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots. She fell two rebounds shy, however, of recording her sixth straight “double-double” to start her collegiate career.
Sophomore Ali Canale (Oswego) finished with nine points and a career-high four blocked shots and sophomore Maggie Byrne (Pearl River/Albertus Magnus) dished out seven assists. Senior Kerry Costello (Katonah/John Jay) added eight points and sophomore Kristin Ciccone (Long Beach) tallied four assists.
Freshman Michelle Reddinger (Baldwinsville/C.W. Baker) was the lone double-figure scorer for Clarkson (0-6) with 11 points. She also pulled down five rebounds. Sophomore Rachel Whitermore (Holliston, MA) and freshman Amanda Coots (Bath/Haverling) grabbed six rebounds each and junior Alicia Chace (Cortland) registered four steals, four rebounds and two assists.
Cortland led 38-14 at halftime, holding Clarkson to just 10 percent shooting from the field (3-of-30) over the opening 20 minutes. The Golden Knights finished the game shooting 22 percent from the floor. Cortland made 44 percent of its shots and was 16-of-17 (94 percent) from the foul line.
