CLINTON, N.Y. — Sydney Fasulo '09 scored a game-high 17 points to help lead Hamilton College to a 57-47 non-league win against visiting Amherst College at Scott Field House on Jan. 9.

Fasulo grabbed seven rebounds and blocked two shots. Jess Barrows '08 added 15 points on five three-pointers for the Continentals (6-1 overall). Barrows moved into fourth place on the program's all-time list with 90 career three-point field goals.

Pumla Sathula chipped in eight points and a game-high 11 rebounds. Molly Kane '09 handed out a career-high five assists and Sarah Schrader '09 was credited with a career-best six steals.

Kerry O'Laughlin '09 and Yasmine Harik '09 paced Amherst (7-6) with nine points apiece. Samantha Swensen '10 pulled down a team-high nine boards.

Hamilton scored the first 15 points and never trailed. Barrows scored nine points during the game-opening run. The Jeffs pulled to within eight points at 18-10 with 12:11 left in the first half, but that was close as they would get. The Continentals led 30-16 at the break thanks to 50 percent shooting from the field (11-for-22). Meanwhile, Amherst shot just 25.8 percent (8-31) from the floor.

Hamilton opened the second half with a 9-0 run to take a 39-16 advantage with 17:04 remaining. The lead grew to 24 points twice midway through the half before the Jeffs slowly chipped away until they reached the final 10-point margin.

The Continentals defeated Amherst for the first time since the 1981-82 season. The Jeffs still lead the all-time series 4-2. Hamilton hosts Clarkson University on Friday, Jan. 12, at 6 p.m. in the Liberty League opener for both teams.
