No Manhattanville player made more than two field goals and the Valiants made only 13 baskets as a team. Neither club reached double-figures before the midway point of the first half when the Vikings took a 10-8 lead, and the visitors would not look back, leading by eight points at halftime.
Early in the second half, Lauren Grenier’s jumper cut the lead to 31-28, but five minutes later North Park was back up by 10 and they coasted in for the 18-point win.
The Valiants hit only 13-of-48 shots against the Vikings’ pressure man-to-man defense and made only 2-of-10 three-point attempts. Manhattanville had just seven assists against 18 turnovers and was out-rebounded by the Vikings 43-38.
Freshman Cyntrell Robinson had another big game off the bench, leading the Valiants with nine points and eight rebounds, all offensive. In her last three games, Robinson is averaging 8.7 points and 8.3 rebounds in an average of only 20 minutes per contest. For her effort this weekend, the freshman was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Valiants’ lone representative.
No Valiant finished in double-figures scoring, with Olivia Nastasi scoring eight points and Grenier adding seven. Freshman Janice Kane had a nice all-around effort with six points, nine rebounds and three steals.
Laura Mount led North Park with 13 points, 10 assists and five rebounds. Three other Vikings (5-1) also finished in double-figures led by Stylianee Damianides’ 11 points and 14 rebounds. Damianides was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Mount and Anna Mueller, who had 12 points Sunday.
In the consolation game earlier Sunday, Lehman forced 29 turnovers and knocked off Saint Joseph’s (Maine), 70-54. Sally Nnamani had 19 points, eight rebounds and four blocks to pace the Lightning while Allison Miner had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Monks. Nnamani and Alyson Ludwig of Saint Joseph’s (Maine) also earned spots on the All-Tournament Team.
The Valiants (3-6) will return to action December 21 on the road against Skyline Conference foe Old Westbury. Tip-off in that game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
