SCHNECTADY, NY — Senior guard Brian Nelson (Holden, MA) scored 13 points and was six for six from the line, and all four other starters also scored in double figures to lead Williams to a 73-63 triumph at Union’s Viniar Athletic Center Tuesday night. The Ephs evened their season mark at 4-4 while the Dutchmen fell to 1-3.

Sophomore guard Kevin Snyder (Littleton, CO) also scored 13 points and added four assists, while sophomore guard Chris Shalvoy (Rochester, NY) scored 12 and dished out four assists for the Ephs. Junior forward Chris Rose (Middletown, NY) added 11 points and a team high nine rebounds while junior forward Matt Weisbrot (Gladwyne, PA) pulled down seven boards with his 10 points.

Senior guard and captain Joe Mackey (Flushing, NY/Archbishop Molloy) scored 20 points for the second straight game to lead the Dutchmen while freshman forward Brendan Rose (Bristow, VA/Notre Dame Academy) posted a career and game high 11 rebounds, including nine on the defensive side. Drew Desmarais (St. James, NY/Smithtown) and Nick DiMaggio (Croton-on-Hudson, NY/Croton-Harmon) scored 11 points each for Union. Junior center Kyle Grimm (Sherrill, NY/Vernon-Verona Central) had eight rebounds for the hosts.

Union had a 12 point lead at 22-10 with 8:37 left in the first half, but after a timeout, the Ephs went on a 18-5 run in the next 5:37 to take a 28-27 lead with 3:00 left in the stanza. The teams were knotted at 30-30 at halftime. Union scored the first five points of the first half for a 35-30 lead with 17:28 remaining in the second, and led by as many as six at 42-36 with 12:29 left when Mackey drained a three pointer. But Snyder’s layup and free throw to follow at 10:45 capped an 8-2 run to tie it at 44-44. The Dutchmen led 47-46 with 10:00 left in the second but in the next 4:16, the Ephs went on a 12-0 run to take a 58-47 lead with 5:44 remaining. Union never pulled closer then the six point deficit with 1:49 left.

Union outrebounded Williams, 41-37, but shot 36% while the Ephs hit at a 41% clip. The visitors also committed only eight turnovers, including just four in the second half, and shot 88% from the line.

Union will host Lehman Saturday, December 9 at 3 p.m. while Williams plays Saturday at Springfield at 7 p.m.
