Leading 10-6 with 12:44 remaining in the first half, the Violets (4-0) held the Valiants (1-3) scoreless over the next 5:01 and were never threatened the rest of the way.
Senior Stephanie Ryba, who scored the first four points of that streak, led NYU with a double-double of 17 points and 12 rebounds. Classmate Karen Bachman scored six points during that run and finished with 10.
NYU’s other senior, Adrienne Rochetti, tied a season high with 16 points.
“There’s no question that our three seniors set the emotional tempo for this team,” said Violet head coach Janice Quinn.
NYU scored the last 10 points of the first half and took a 47-16 lead at the intermission following a buzzer-beating three-pointer by Ryba.
The Violets took a game-high 41-point lead, 79-38, on Rochetti’s three-point play with 5:09 remaining.
“I was pleased with our defensive intensity in the first half,” Quinn stated. “But, we had a hard time sustaining it in the second half.”
Sophomore Jessica McEntee totaled eight points, 11 rebounds and four assists, as all 12 Violets that played scored at least one point.
Kim Reznicek and Janice Kane led Manhattanville with 15 points each.
