Foote finished with 12 points for the Herons (12-10 overall, 6-6 league). Erin Cunningham '10 led William Smith with 24 points and seven rebounds. Cunningham scored 22 of those points in the second half as the Herons erased a 19-point deficit in the final 14:35. Latasha Coney '09 chipped in 15 points off the bench. Marisa Vespa '08 added nine points, 10 assists and six steals.
Pumla Sathula '08 paced Hamilton (15-7, 7-5) with career highs of 32 points and 14 rebounds. Sathula also handed out three assists and made two steals. Sydney Fasulo '09 poured in 21 points, grabbed eight boards and blocked two shots.
William Smith took its first lead at 66-64 on two Cunningham free throws with 41 seconds left. Sathula canned two free throws of her own to tie the score at 66-all with 28 ticks remaining. That set the stage for Foote's game-winner. The Continentals could only muster a desperation shot from around half-court that landed out-of-bounds with less than a second left.
Hamilton led 35-24 at the half and stretched the lead to 50-31 on two free throws by Cate Schafer '10 with 14:35 remaining. The Herons responded with 12 straight points to pull within seven. A lay-up by Sathula put the Continentals back up by 11 at 60-49 with 7:53 left. However, William Smith went on a 15-4 run and tied the score at 64-all on a basket by Stephanie Czajkowski '08 with 1:15 remaining.
Hamilton shot 46 percent (23-50) from the field as the Herons made just 35.2 percent (25-71) of their shots from the floor. However, William Smith's 15 steals helped force 27 turnovers by the Continentals. The Herons committed just 14 miscues. Both teams shot well at the free throw line as Hamilton missed just one of 19 attempts and William Smith went 14-for-16.
The Continentals host Vassar College for another league game on Friday, Feb. 16, at 6 p.m.
