With the loss the Valiants fall to 7-17 overall and 5-10 in Skyline Conference action. Farmingdale improves to 15-6 overall and 10-4 in the Conference.
In the first half, Manhattanville ran with Farmingdale and was able to keep the game close. Farmingdale would take a quick 4-3 lead and the Valiants would play catch up for most of the half finally tying the game at 18-18 with 9:49 to play in the half. Senior Dionne Walker would knock down a foul shot to give Manhattanville a 19-18 lead. Walker would finish with 12 points and three assists.
On the ensuing play, Farmingdale’s Kimberly Blakney would knock down three of her 23 points to give the Rams back the lead 21-20 and Farmingdale would never trail again. The Rams would continue to build on it and lead 38-31 going into halftime. Blakney lead all scorers with 23 points and 15 rebounds, while picking up four blocks.
In the second half, Farmingdale would force five Manhattanville turnovers in the first four minutes to gain a commanding 51-36 lead with 16:52 to go. After coming out of a timeout, the Valiants would answer going on a 10-2 run and cut Farmingdale’s lead to 53-47 with 14:06 to play.
Every time Manhattanville got close, the Rams would respond and continue to push the lead. With 7:15 to go in the game, Farmingdale would have their largest lead 75-55 and Manhattanville could not overcome the deficit.
The difference in this game was turnovers. The Valiants turned the ball over a season high 29 times, which lead to 29 Farmingdale points, while Farmingdale turned the ball over 11 times, leading to 11 Manhattanville points.
The Valiants shot 37.5% from the floor and shot 59.3% from the foul line. The Rams shot 40.7% from the floor and 84.2% from the foul line, while also draining four three-pointers.
Freshman Nina Johnson led the Valiants with 16 points and seven rebounds in 19 minutes of action. Sophomore guard Olivia Nastasi tallied 10 points and five boards for the Valiants.
Manhattanville (7-17, 5-10 Skyline) will finish up their regular season when they host the Centenary Cyclones on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in the first game of a double header that will feature the Manhattanville Men’s team taking on Centenary at 8 p.m.
