Rochester Tech 68, Ithaca 54

SCHENECTADY, NY — Senior forward Meghan O’Malley posted a double double with 15 points and 12 rebounds and senior guard Meghan Stetson had a game high 19 points to lead Williams to an 81-55 women’s basketball win over Union at the Viniar Atheltic Center Thursday night.

The Ephs now stand 5-2 on the season while the Dutchwomen fell to 0-3. Mike Petermen scored 13 points as five players hit in double figures for Williams, which shot 49% for the night and had a 47-31 rebounding edge.

Sophomore center Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY/Burnt Hills) paced Union with a team and career high 10 rebounds, while sophomore forward Michelle Rogers (Clarence, NY/Clarence) led all Dutchwomen with 10 points. Ormsby, Krystal Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Maria Tobin (Schenectady, NY/Shenendehowa) each had nine points for the Dutchwomen.

Williams led 38-31 at halftime, never leading by more then 10 points in the first half. The Dutchwomen were as close as seven at 54-47 with 13:08 remaining in the second stanza when Marissa Dwyer (Duanesburg, NY/Duanesburg) hit a three pointer. But Williams went on a 14-3 run in the next 5:32 to take a 68-50 advantage with 7:36 left in the stanza. Nikki Savageau, who ended up with 12 points, scored nine of her points during that run for the Ephs. Williams led the as many as 28 at 81-53 with 55 seconds left. Union shot 35% for the game, and had 23 turnovers, but forced 21 turnovers by the guests. The Dutchwomen shot 58% from the free throw line while the Ephs shot 77% from the stripe. Williams had a 25-13 advantage in points off turnovers and scored 34 of their points in the paint.

Union has a fourth straight home game to open the season, Saturday at 2 p.m. vs. Middlebury before playing Sunday at Elms at 3 p.m.
