Lakeland 61, Maranatha Baptist 55

Troy, N.Y. — Senior guard Neal Wesson (Portsmouth, RI/Portsmouth) scored 26 points, including six three-pointers, to lead Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) to a 77-57 win over Clarkson University in a Liberty League men’s basketball game at Robison Gym.

With the victory, Rensselaer improves to 11-9 overall and 4-5 in the Liberty League. The Golden Knights are now 12-9 and 3-7.

The Red Hawks, who led by five points at halftime (32-27), held a six-point lead (46-40) with 13:58 remaining in the second half. RPI then outscored Clarkson 31-17 the remainder of the game for the 20-point victory.

Wesson, Rensselaer’s leading scorer, made 9-of-18 points from the field, including 6-of-10 from three-point range, and 2-of-2 from the foul line for his game-high 26 points. He also had two rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Sophomore forward Graham Gordon (Mt. Vernon, NY/Iona Prep) added 12 points and a game-high eight rebounds for RPI, which made 60% (27-of-45) of its shots.

Senior Jon Youngmann (Corinth, NY/Corinth) led the Golden Knights, scoring 15 points with four rebounds. Freshman guard Brandon Linton (Queens, NY/Holy Cross) added 13 points and senior guard EJ Harrison (Troy, NY/LaSalle Institute) totaled 12 points.

Rensselaer is back in action on Friday night when it travels to Liberty League foe Skidmore College. Clarkson also plays next on Friday when it hosts Hobart in a league contest. Both games begin at 8pm.
