SCHENECTADY, NY — Senior forward Krystal Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/ Shenendehowa) posted her seventh double double of the season with 13 points and a game high 11 rebounds to lead host Union to a 67-58 Liberty League victory over Rensselaer Saturday at the Viniar Athletic Center. The victory for the Dutchwomen (8-4 in the league and 12-10 overall) clinched a spot in the four-team Liberty League Championship Tournament, scheduled February 23-24 at top seed St. Lawrence.

Sophomore guard Maria Tobin (Schenectady, NY/ Bishop Maginn) scored 17 points to lead all Dutchwomen, and led a bench that outscored the Red Hawks bench, 30-14. Sophomore center Rachel Ormsby (Charlton, NY/ Burnt Hills) had 11 points and six boards off the bench for Union while sophomore guard Selin Whitham (South Winsdor, CT/ South Winsdor) added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists. Sophomore guard Whitney Coleman (Etiwanda, CA/Etiwanda) scored a game high 26 points for Rensselaer (7-4 in the Liberty League, 14-8 overall), while senior forward

Kristi Baranowski (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) added 10 points and nine rebounds for the Red Hawks. RPI had just nine turnovers in the game but shot 34%, while the Dutchwomen shot 40%.
Union had a 51-36 rebounding advantage, including a 27-13 mark at halftime when the Dutchwomen took a 34-23 lead into the break.

Union went on a 7-0 in the first 2:29 of the second half to open the lead up to 18 (41-23), and led by 18 with 11:59 left (51-33). But the Red Hawks went on a 12-3 run in the next 5:09 feuled by six points from Coleman. The Dutchwomen then took over with a 7-0 streak in the next 3:34 for a 61-45 advantage as Whitham made four free throws during the stretch. Union now stands alone in second place with the 8-4 mark while Rensselaer is tied with Hamilton for third at 7-4.

The Dutchwomen close out the regular season next weekend with home games Friday vs. league leader St. Lawrence (6 p.m.) and Saturday vs.Clarkson (2 p.m.)
