POUGHKEEPSIE, NY — Union College snapped the Vassar College women's basketball team's four-game winning streak with a 66-42 Liberty League victory at the Athletics & Fitness Center Saturday afternoon. Vassar shot just 4 for 23 from the field in the first half, and was out-rebounded by Union 43-28 throughout the game. Sophomore Maria Tobin (Schenectady, NY/Bishop Maginn) scored 16 points for the Dutchwomen, while senior forward Krystal Hammond (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) notched a double-double effort with 11 points and 11 rebounds.

Union improves to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in Liberty League competition with the win, and will take on Hartwick College at home on Tuesday at 7:00pm. Vassar falls to 6-5 and 1-1 in conference play and will host RPI on Tuesday for a 6:00 pm contest.

Vassar fell behind early, going down 11-4 courtesy of two straight baskets by Union's Devon Ciliberto (New Paltz, NY/New Paltz). Ciliberto would finish the game with 14 points. The Brewers responded with four unanswered points by senior center Rachel Cerlen (Florham Park, NJ/Milburn) to get within three points at 11-8 at the 15:16 mark.

Vassar would not score again until Shannon Fuhr (Simsbury, CT/Simsbury) converted a free throw with 8:05 to play in the first half, to make the score 24-9. The Brewers scored just three more points in the half, all free throws, and at the break the score was 33-12 in favor of the Dutchwomen.

The second half was a different story, as Vassar shot 57.1 percent from the field and scored 30 points to Union's 33. The Brewers went down 41-16 with 16:16 remaining before managing a 9-0 run that got them within 18 points to Union, 43-25, but that was the closest they would get to the Dutchwomen, who pushed the pace throughout, scoring 27 points off of Vassar's turnovers in the game.

Fuhr dished out 6 assists for Vassar, while Cerlen and freshman Emily Haeuser (South Portland, ME/South Portland) contributed 11 and 13 points, respectively. Haeuser also pulled down 9 rebounds.
