GLASSBORO, N.J. — Junior guard Krystal Jankowski (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) notched her first career triple-double with game-high totals of 16 points, 10 rebounds and 11 assists to power the Rutgers University-Camden women’s basketball team over Rowan University, 74-67, in a New Jersey Athletic Conference game here Wednesday night.
Jankowski’s 11 assists also tied her career high and marked the second time she had that many against Rowan. The first time came on Jan. 25, 2006.
The Scarlet Raptors went on a 40-32 second-half run to overcome a 35-34 halftime deficit. That run was sparked by Jankowski, who had 10 points, nine rebounds and seven assists after the intermission.
Rutgers-Camden improves to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the NJAC, while Rowan falls to 7-6 and 0-2.
With the second-half score tied for the third time, Jankowski sank a pair of foul shots with 9:17 remaining in the game, giving the Raptors the lead for good, 54-52. The Raptors held off the Profs down the stretch, aided by clutch foul shooting from junior guard Jennifer Williams (Ocean City, NJ/Ocean City). Williams went 4-for-6 from the line, including 4-for-4 in the last couple of minutes, to finish with a career-high 13 points.
Junior forward Jennifer Christy (Malaga, NJ/Delsea Regional) added 15 points and four steals for the Lady Raptors, while junior guard Imani Hafiz (Franklinville, NJ/Delsea Regional) had 10 points and four steals.
For Rowan, senior forward Lauren Byrne (Paulsboro, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) had 13 points and nine rebounds, while junior guard Susan Massara (Hammonton, NJ/Hammonton) scored 11 points. Sophomore guard Brynn DeGroff (Wildwood Crest, NJ/Wildwood) collected 10 points and junior guard Kristina Wallace (Logan Township, NJ/Clearview Regional) had nine assists for the Profs.
Rowan plays a 1 p.m. NJAC game at The College of New Jersey Saturday, while the Lady Raptors host that same TCNJ team in their next game at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 17.
