ALFRED, NY – The Alfred University women’s basketball team lost at home to Ithaca College, 93-49, Friday evening at the McLane Center.
Alfred (4-13, 0-6 Empire 8) shot 29 percent in the first half, while the visiting Bombers (8-8, 5-1 Empire 8) made 44 percent of its shots to take a 53-26 lead at intermission. Ithaca outshot AU 37 percent to 23 percent in the second and 41 percent to 26 percent for the game while forcing 27 Alfred turnovers.
Sophomore guard Melanie Jackson scored 10 points and pulled down a game-high eight rebounds to lead Alfred. Freshman forward Danielle Cooper and senior point guard Meg Sampsell each added nine points for the Lady Saxons.
Erika Steele scored a game-high 19 points to lead four Ithaca players in double figures. Molly Friel had 13 points and a team-high seven rebounds, while Amy Smith and Sue Kelly added 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 2 p.m. at home against Elmira while Ithaca visits St. John Fisher, also Saturday at 2 p.m.
