ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Tournament MVP Joe Canori (pictured, Webster Thomas) led all scorers with 26 points Saturday as Nazareth captured the championship of its own Holiday Inn Airport Tournament in men\'s basketball with a 66-61 victory over Fredonia.

Nazareth improved to 2-0 overall. Fredonia is 1-1. The Golden Flyers visit the University of Rochester Tuesday for a non-conference game at 7 p.m. (WHTK-AM 1280 / www.whtk.com).

Against Fredonia, Nazareth appeared to be in control in building a 24-point lead, 45-21, on a basket by all-tournament team selection Tyler Smith (Fairport) early with 15:53 to play in the second half. The Blue Devils, however, embarked on a 30-8 scoring run to close within two points, 53-51, on a basket by all-tournament team selection Kevin Reichelmayr (Aquinas/Rochester, NY) with 3:16 left.

Nazareth answered with a pair of free throws and a field goal by Corey McAdam (Fairport), a three-pointer by Canori and two free throws by Tyler Smith to stretch the lead back to nine, 62-53, with 1:00 to play. Fredonia came back again to within three, 64-61, when Reichelmayr converted a three-point play with :16 left. Canori, however, preserved the win with a pair of free throws with :11 left.

Canori\'s 26 points included four three-pointers. He also had 25 points in Friday\'s 91-69 victory over Morrisville State. Smith finished with 14 points, a game-high 10 rebounds and three blocks. McAdam added 11 points, four assists and six steals.

Nazareth made 17 of 33 shots from the field (51.5 percent) in the first half as the Golden Flyers built a seemingly safe 39-21 advantage after 20 minutes. The Golden Flyers made only nine second-half field goals in 28 attempts (32 percent) to help the Blue Devils make a game of it.

Fredonia\'s Adam Smith scored 15 points and also was named to the all-tournament team. Brad Cooper came of the bench the score 11 points. Other all-tournament team selection s were Dodrick Spencer of Morrisville State and Sherrick Belt of Keystone. Keystone defeated Morrisville, 66-63, in the consolation game.
