Worcester State 61, Framingham State 60

Ithaca, N.Y. — The men's basketball team (6-6, 2-1 Empire 8) lost its first Empire 8 game of the season, dropping an 85-63 decision to Utica (10-2, 3-0 Empire 8) Saturday. Sophomore center Jeff Bostic (Geneva/Genava) led the Bombers with a team-high 18 points.

Sophomore forward Sean Leahy (West Genesee/Syracuse) scored 11 points–he has scored 10 or more points in three-straight games. Junior forward Sean Stahn (Ardsley/Scarsdale) grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Bostic and sophomore guard Brendan Rogers (Liverpool/Liverpool) made a team-best three assists.
In the first half, Leahy shot 4-6 and led the Bombers, along with Bostic, with 9 points. Freshman center Tom Brown (Bayport-Blue Point/Bayport) grabbed a team-high five boards in the first. A lay-up by Rogers with 0:05 remaining capped a Bomber 7-0 run to cut Utica’s lead to 39-25 going into the break.
The Bombers started to rally in the second when they went on a 15-4 run that started at 10:32 with a Brown free-throw and ended at 8:10 with a jumper by Rogers to make the score 77-53. The Bombers were not able come all the way back as the game ended 85-63.

Utica finished with four players in double figures. Senior forward Ray Bryant (Manhattan Center/Utica) registered a double-double by scoring 18 points and grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds. Sophomore guard Doug Herring (Poughkeepsie/Poughkeepsie) scored a game-high 24 points, along with six steals. Senior guard Brian Collier (Norwich/Norwich) scored 15 for the Pioneers and made a team-best five assists. Seniro forward Jack Lighthall (Adirondack/Boonville) scored 10 points.

The Bombers return to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. game at Morrisville.
