Nazareth would hold a 4-2 lead in the early minutes of play, but could not come up with an answer for the Hartwick offense, and never held the advantage for the rest of regulation. The Hawks built their lead to 11, taking a 26-15 edge with 11:39 to play in the first half on a Tichy lay-up and would take a 15 point (48-33) lead into the intermission. Tichy and Wilson each had 13 first-half points to pace Hartwick.
In the second half the Hawks came out relentless, building their lead to as many as 20 and never letting the Tigers cut the lead to single digits and coasted to the 94-81 final.
Hartwick shot 55 percent from the floor, while holding Nazareth to just a 46 percent completion rate. The Hawks were also sharp from the line on the day, converting 26-32 free-throws.
The Tigers got a lot of offensive production from their bench, as Whitney Smith led the team in scoring with 19 points. Kelly Dunne also gave good minutes in reserve, posting 18 points. Ali Sharpe rounded out Nazareth’s double-digit scorers with 12 points.
Hartwick will finish up its regular season next weekend as they head on the road to take on Alfred Friday night and St. John Fisher on Saturday afternoon.
