Potsdam State 68, SUNYIT 58

Oneonta, N.Y. — The women's basketball team defeated Hartwick Saturday, 81-68. The Bombers (11-9, 72 Empire 8) were lead by junior forward Erika Steele (Hopkinton/Hopkinton, Mass.) who registered a game-high 22 points and 12 rebounds–her third double-double of the season.

Senior guard Sue Kelly (Bethlehem Central/Delmar) scored 19 points and grabbed 6 boards. Senior guard Erin Sanvidge (Catholic Central/Troy) scored 11 points, dished out a team-high six assists and made a team-best five steals.

Hartwick was lead by Lindsay Wilson (Oneida/Oneida), who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and making 10 assists. Kara Foro (Guilderland/Schnectady) and Jenny Knight (Martha’s Vineyard/Oak Bluffs, Mass.) each grabbed seven rebounds. Foro scored 16 points and Knight scored 13.

After Hartwick (5-13, 3-7 Empire 8) took a 4-3 lead to start the game, Kelly, who shot 7-15 from the floor and 3-5 from the three-point line, made a jumper to give the Bombers a 5-4 lead. The Bombers held onto the lead for the remainder of the game. They used a 15-4 run, which started at 14:49 and ended at 11:49 of the first half, to pull away at 30-15. After making 19-38 shots from the field and 8-12 from behind the three-point line, the Bombers entered halftime with a 50-33 lead.

In the second half Ithaca only allowed Hartwick to come within six points with 3:16 remaining. The Bombers sealed the win by making 9-12 free throws within the final three minutes. The Bombers shot 71.4% from the free-throw line for the game.

The Bombers return to action Friday against St. John Fisher. The game, which is scheduled to start at 6 p.m., will be the final regular-season game for Ithaca.
