ALFRED, NY —
Visiting Hartwick used a 19-3 run to start the second half, erasing a four-point halftime deficit and propelling the Hawks’ women’s basketball team to a 75-64 victory over host Alfred University Friday evening at the McLane Center.
Jenny Knight (22 points, 16 rebounds), Lindsay Wilson (22 points, five rebounds, six assists) and Mara Tichy (19 points, 11 rebounds) paced Hartwick, which improved to 9-13 (6-7 Empire 8) with the win.
Hartwick outrebounded Alfred 52-35 and shot 44 percent from the floor to help overcome 24 turnovers. The Lady Saxons committed only 15 turnovers, but shot only 37 percent from the field (20 percent on three pointers) and 60 percent from the line.
Sophomore guard Melanie Jackson scored a game-high 23 points to go with five rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals to pace AU (4-20, 0-13 Empire 8). Freshman forwards Libby Meier and Christine DiLaura, freshman guard Abbey Schaffnit and senior guard Megan Sampsell each tallied eight points for AU, with DiLaura adding a team-high eight rebounds.
AU plays its season finale Saturday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. at home against Utica.
