The Alfred University men’s basketball team dropped a 77-64 contest to visiting RIT on Friday evening at the McLane Center.
The Saxons, despite good team shooting 46 percent from the floor, could not find away to overcome RIT’s dominance on the glass, as they outrebounded the Saxons 39-27 (15 offensive). Both teams struggled with foul shots, with AU making 54-percent (12 of 22) and RIT making only 47 percent (16 of 34) from the line.
Alfred (6-12, 4-4 Empire 8) had four players score in double figures with senior point guard Robby McCarter leading the Saxon offensive. McCarter shot 71 percent from the floor (2 for 2 behind the arc, and 4 for 6 from the line), finishing with a team-high 16 points. Senior center Dillon Stein dded 13 points while sophomore guard Carl Embury (Perry, NY/Perry) and senior forward Ryan Clemenson had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
RIT (10-9, 4-4 Empire 8) was led by the three-point shooting of guard Barrett Zeinfeld, who sank five on his way to a game-high 19 points. Kenny Gethers had 15 points and eight rebounds while Rick Whitwood tallied 10 buckets.
Alfred is in action next on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 4 p.m. at home against Nazareth.
