RIT went on a 7-0 run to start the game, forcing Hartwick to play catch-up in the opening minutes of the game. The Hawks countered with an 11-4 run of their own to tie the game at 11-11 with 13:15 to play. The team’s traded baskets over the next five minutes, with Tichy’s 1,000th career point coming at the 8:26 mark to give Hartwick a 24-23 lead. The Tigers took a one point lead into the break, up 33-32.
RIT increased their lead early in the second half, and led by as many as six points. The Hawks chipped away at the deficit and took a 56-54 lead courtesy of a pair of Jenny Knight free throws with 3:13 remaining in regulation. Hartwick would extend its lead to six with 27 seconds left in the game when Tichy hit a pair of free throws, and would hold on to claim the 63-59 win.
Tichy’s 16 points and 10 rebounds paced the Hawks, with Knight and Wilson each adding 14 points apiece in the win. Wilson also had a game-high seven assists.
The Tigers were led in scoring by Joanna Dobeck, who had a double-double of 16 points and 12 boards. Renee Whitmore chipped in 15 points off the bench for RIT.
Hartwick will play its last home game of the season tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. against Nazareth College. The Hawks will honor their four seniors, Alanna Adams, Knight, Tichy, and Wilson in a pre-game ceremony.
